We believe in God

We believe in One God, revealed to us in the Trinity; God the Creator, who made all things; God the Son, Jesus Christ, who redeems all; and God the Holy Spirit, who calls, gathers, and enlightens us all.

We believe in Grace

We believe in God’s abundant and free grace. Grace is forgiveness, love, purpose and identity as Child of God. This grace cannot be bought, earned, or gained through any human means. It is given by God because God unconditionally loves us, even though we mess up, even though we stray, and even though we fall short of what we are called to, God still loves us, forgives us, and claims us as Children of God.

We Believe in Loving God and Our Neighbor

When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandments were, he responded “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:36-40; Mark 12:28-34; Luke 10:25-28). These are not only commandments but also calls. We are called to love God with our whole lives, not just an hour on Sunday. We are called to love our neighbors and those neighbors include our friends, family, co-workers, strangers, people in need, people different than ourselves, people we disagree with – to the extent of our enemies. We are called to love all of these neighbors because God loves us. We show love to these neighbors through helping them when they are in need, through feeding them when they are hungry, through loving them when it would be easier to hate, and through building bridges instead of walls.

We Believe in Church Together

We are church together. This means that we cannot do the work of God by ourselves, but we also bring unique gifts that help serve in the ELCA’s mission to do God’s work with our hands. We practice being church together in many ways. We are partners in ministry with other ELCA congregations in North Little Rock, Hot Springs, Hot Springs Village, Edgemont, and Stuttgart. We are part of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod, which is a gathering of the ELCA churches and ministry centers in Arkansas and Oklahoma. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
