In baptism, God delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children of God, and makes us members of the body of Christ. This new life welcomes us into the family of God.
In the Lutheran Church, baptism can occur at any age but only happens once. Usually, baptisms take place during the Sunday morning worship service and includes the baptismal candidate, their sponsors (also known as Godparents), parents, and loved ones professing their faith. The Godparents, parents, loved ones, and congregation make promises to support this new member of the body of Christ as they grow in their faith. If you are interested in learning more or to schedule a baptism, talk to the pastor. |
