I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sydney, Australia. I did not grow up going to church, but when I was in high school a friend invited me to her youth group and I began attending and becoming very active there. When I was in college, I drifted away from the church for a few years, I felt a longing to go back. There were not many young people in my congregation so I thought of going to another church, but then had a Kennedyesque moment and thought “it’s not what my church can do for me, but what I can do for my church.” After this I became engaged again in the congregation I was previously a part of and became a youth leader and started a young adults’ ministry. In this time, I met and married Josh. I also earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Josh felt called to seminary and we moved Dubuque, Iowa for him to pursue this new adventure. I taught pre-school at this time, but quickly felt called to something else. I knew I was not called to be a pastor, as I heard about diaconal ministry I knew this is what I was meant to do. Diaconal ministers are called to bridge the church and the world. My passion is gifts ministry, to help people discover their gifts and use them to serve the needs of others. Frederick Buechner said “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” and I couldn’t agree more. I love working with people and helping them find this intersection of deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger as their place to share God’s love with all. I graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary in 2015 with a Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry. I love working with the people at Faith Lutheran and in the Little Rock community to do God’s work together. I serve on the board of Interfaith Arkansas, as the dean of Cluster 8 (central Arkansas ELCA ministries), and on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod Council. I also enjoy cooking, travelling, painting or other crafty things. I am glad to now call Little Rock home and raise my two young boys here with Josh!
